the only way to get that done is for republicans to step out and get mercilessly criticized by grover norquist and democrats are going to have to do things about entitlements that they'll get criticized on the left. >> cenk: they're going to seem so big and grand taking criticism for the left. those people all just voted for you, right? they are putting medicare and medicaid on the chopping block. they've been dying to do it all along. they ran a campaign about romney would cult medicare. they're going to cult medicare. romney would have, maybe more, but they're going to cut it. it gets worse. how about tax cuts. sit down please. before you watch this clip, sit down, otherwise you're going to fall down. >> the immediate question of the tax cuts, we want to extend them for most people but we want to engage in the process of tax reform that would produce lower rates, even potentially for the wealthiest. >> cenk: you didn't hear that wrong. not higher rates for the wealthiest lower rates for the wealthiest! lower rates! cut taxes for the wealthiest! i'm glad we had an election, guys. the

of course grover norquist is fighting back. he called those statements by my republican colleagues impure thoughts. he called one of them a weasel. he is used to blind allegiance from the republican party and he's not going to take this lying down. but i am hopeful that more and more republicans will break away from grover norquist and that they will actually follow up on their new rhetoric with a genuine willingness to help us call on the wealthy to pay their fair share. and it should be easy for them because the senate actually has already passed a bill to do that and in a way that works for our middle class. the senate passed a bill that would extend the tax cuts for 98% of our workers and 97% of small business owners, and just let the tax cuts for the wealthiest americans expire as scheduled. we have sent that bill over to the house now. the president said he would sign it. all house republicans have to do is pass that bill, and a significant chunk of the fiscal cliff will disappear for the middle class. when that's done, w

they have made a huge move after two decades when, you know, grover norquist enforced very strictly this pledge that said no tax increases ever. you know, over my dead body. republicans have made a very significant move that says, okay. we will accept some tax increases. but let's remember, there are some very important details to be worked out. how much and when. will they just say, okay, we will stand aside while democrats pass this tax cut for the middle class and then let the tax cuts for the wealthy engs pyre? that could happen. but does it happen before the end of the year? does it happen after the end of the year? >> now, dana, on that point, a lot of this is that they seem to have already lost the american public. in a new series of polls. quinnipiac shows that americans have views close to the president. 65% say raise taxes on $250,000 plus. 85% of polls pledged against raising taxes. that's 85%. 51% think that the gop is negotiating in bad faith. so the public seems to be gone from the republican cause. >> right. by two to one in virtually all of these polls we are seeing that
